Sony and AMD have unveiled a new advanced GPU technology under Project Amethyst, signaling potential hardware upgrades for the PlayStation 6. Mark Cerny, PlayStation 5’s lead architect, and Jack Huynh of AMD showcased Neural Arrays and Radiance Cores, innovations aimed at enhancing AI rendering, RAY tracing, and memory efficiency.
The Neural Arrays redesign AMD’s AI accelerators, enabling simultaneous processing of large screen sections. Radiance Cores optimize real-time rendering, with both technologies currently under simulation for AI-assisted graphics tasks. The collaboration underscores Sony’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of console performance.
